Changes to Bus Services in Derbyshire – What Residents Need to Know

Five colorful buses parked in a row: red, orange, green, and blue. Each displays routes on digital signs. Trees and buildings in the background.

From 1 February 2026, responsibility for most local bus services in Derbyshire has moved from Derbyshire County Council to the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA).

This means EMCCA is now the main organisation in charge of planning and supporting bus services across the region.

What Has Changed?

EMCCA is now responsible for:

  • Planning and improving bus services across the region

  • Managing supported (subsidised) bus routes that would not otherwise run

  • Managing concessionary travel, including older person and disabled bus passes (the Gold Card in Derbyshire)

  • Smart ticketing and multi-operator tickets

  • Real-time bus information, timetables and displays

  • Bus stops, shelters and bus stations

  • Handling public transport feedback and enquiries

Funding for bus improvements and decisions about which routes receive financial support will now sit with EMCCA.

What Has Not Changed?

Some services remain with Derbyshire County Council:

  • Mainstream home to school transport

  • SEND transport

  • Adult care transport

  • Highways issues such as uneven pavements, trip hazards or vegetation around bus stops

If you have concerns about these services, you should continue to contact Derbyshire County Council as usual.

Who Should I Contact?

Here is a simple guide:

Bus service suggestions or supported bus routes Email: transportnetwork@eastmidlands-cca.gov.uk

Bus passes (older persons, disabled passes, lost or renewal enquiries) Email: concessionary.travel@eastmidlands-cca.gov.uk Phone: Call Derbyshire 01629 536212

Bus stops, shelters or bus stations Email: transport.facilities@eastmidlands-cca.gov.uk

If your complaint relates to how a bus was driven or operated, you should continue to contact the bus company directly.

During the transition, Derbyshire County Council will continue to help handle phone enquiries for at least 12 months through Call Derbyshire.

These changes are part of wider regional transport arrangements. While the organisation responsible has changed, bus services will continue to operate and residents can still access support and information using the updated contact details above.
