Recreation Ground Improvements and Changing Room Upgrade Update

Blue climbing structure on a playground, surrounded by green grass under a clear sky. Bare trees with autumn leaves in the distance.

Enhancement of the play and recreation facilities

The parish council secured a grant of £30K for  new play equipment for older children, this is scheduled to be installed w/c 9th Feb and work should conclude on 18th Feb. Three (3) pieces of equipment as requested by the children, will be placed between the spider's climbing net and the new pump track.

Although the time of year is far from ideal to be installing new play equipment, the District Council has provided the funding on the condition the equipment is installed and paid for before mid March.  Grant funding for additional play equipment was too good an opportunity to miss.

Through the same grant funding scheme, we have obtained funding to replace the large vehicle gate into the Recreation Ground with a barrier, a side pedestrian gate will also be installed.  At the same time work will be undertaken to repair the potholes in the car park, to mark out a disabled parking space, to remove the paving slabs in front of the social club and to replace with tarmac.    This work is expected to take place the w/c 23rd Feb to coincide.

The 4 x  picnic tables have arrived and will be installed when the weather permits – these include 2 x accessible adult tables and 2 x toddler tables.  These too have been provided by grant funding (a separate pot) , with the parish council contributing 10% of the costs and the installation.  Bird boxes, again through grant funding, will be erected soon.

The upgrade of the changing rooms

There have been some ongoing delays relating to the exterior of the proposed extension however following a site meeting, we are more confident that the plans will be approved.  Once planning permission is grant, the next phase will be to go out to tender, as a public body and coupled with the projected cost of the extension and upgrade, the parish council must follow a rigorous tender process. This will involve a national tender process and as such it will not be the quickest of processes but parish council will keep you regularly informed of progress.
